Khaled is an accomplished full professor of Computer Science & AI with over thirty years of experience in academia. He has a strong background in teaching, mentoring, academic training, community development, and academic administration. Khaled has received numerous honors and awards for academic excellence and outstanding achievements. As the Co-Chair of the Faculty of Engineering and information technology Council, he successfully built the IT section from scratch and oversaw the development of the academic programs' curricula. He has mentored academic staff, established a team of researchers, and increased program enrolment. Khaled has collaborated with international institutions, organizations, and corporations and has published extensively in high-quality international journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. His expertise is widely recognized, and he is frequently invited to evaluate research proposals, academic programs, PhD theses, and academic promotions. Khaled has also taught Computer Science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and served as chair of numerous international conferences and on the editorial boards of various international journals.

 

Ranked among the worldwide 2% top scientists in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 according to a study published by Dr Ioannidis and his research team in Stanford University.

  •  Selected for membership in the esteemed Mohammed bin Rashed Academy of Scientists (MBRAS) in the United Arab Emirates since 2021 in the Engineering and Technology Category.
  • Gained a wealth of experience in academia spanning through a career and affiliations, which enabled him to collaborate with international institutions, such as Swedish Institute of Computer Science, School of Informatics (University of Edinburgh) , Faculty of Engineering & IT (The British University in Dubai), and Faculty of Computers & AI (Cairo University), international organizations such as UNDP/FAO, and industrial corporates, such as Microsoft/FAST search.
  • Developed and revised the curriculum and the syllabi as well as successfully led the (re)accreditation of both BSc in CS, MSc. in Informatics, MSc. in Cyber security, PhD in CS degrees as needed.
  • Solicited and supervised student interns to participate in outreach activities, such as IEEE and VEX Robotics Competition, to market the department and college to potential students.
  • Led the process of the accreditation of the ABET accreditation.
  • Founded and led the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Research Group since 2004 at BUiD.
